My journey to Greece began in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was so excited for the trip that I could not fall asleep. I sat on my bed imagining all of the wonderful sights I was going to see abroad. When I got to the airport, I told my family goodbye and went through TSA. The Tulsa International Airport is relatively small, so it did not take long for me to find my gate. I sat on the flight to Chicago wide awake and practically shaking with excitement. Upon arrival in O'Hare, I thought to myself that it is the most packed airport I have ever been in. My arrival gate was about a 20-minute walk from my departure gate. While I was walking, it felt as if I was swimming through the crowds. The corridor to my terminal had this large globe hanging in it (shown below). The globe put my journey into perspective for me. Before thinking about it, I did not realize how far the central United States were from Italy and Greece. I started to think about the time differences as well. When I am at the University of Arizona, there is only a two-hour time difference between my family and me. Now there was going to be an eight-hour time difference between us.
